Troubleshooting Variable Air Volume (VAV) Systems

Variable Air Volume (VAV) systems are the most common type of mechanical system used in large commercial buildings today. HVAC Technicians must be familiar with troubleshooting tools and techniques for these systems. This seminar will show the most common troubleshooting techniques and scenarios.

  • In depth coverage of the most common mechanical system configurations, including VAV Air Handling Units and Terminal Boxes.
  • Typical Control System Components including DDC and Pneumatic Control Systems.
  • Typical Tools and diagnostic equipment needed for troubleshooting.
  • The Most Common Troubleshooting Scenarios and how to diagnose them.

    Ron Auvil has been in the HVAC Industry for over 43 years.

    He has written a number of books for American Technical Publishers, including 'HVAC and Refrigeration Systems', HVAC Control Systems Networking', 'HVAC Control Systems', and 'Indoor Air Quality Solutions for Stationary Engineers' His books have been well received by the HVAC industry.

    He is currently a Subject Matter Expert for HVACRedu.net, the premier provider of online training for the HVAC Industry.

    In addition, Ron is an Instructional Specialist for ACR Supply in Durham NC. He provides HVAC and Control Systems Training to customers and distributors in the SE USA. In the past he has served as a Regional Training Manager for several HVAC and controls manufacturers as well as a project manager, senior troubleshooter, and Human Performance Consultant. He is a proud graduate of West Side Institute of Technology in Cleveland Ohio.

    Ron has over 40 years of experience in the classroom in a wide variety of roles and has taught everything from basic electricity and refrigeration to steam plant licensing and HVAC Controls.

    Ron also has written multiple articles for the HVAC News and Fluke Corporation. What he enjoys the most is spending time with technical staff on jobsites and train them to effectively install, service, and use their mechanical and control systems.

    Some of his clients include the Pentagon, The University of South Carolina, Georgia Tech, Gulfstream Aircraft, Boeing, NASA, and many others.
