Fan noise is a major issue in the HVAC industry and one that is often overlooked and/or misunderstood. The purpose of this presentation is to educate industry professionals about the Basics of Fan Noise and the ratings published by various fan manufacturers.

At the end of this presentation, participants will be able to:

  • Define commonly used terms as they apply to fan noise.
  • Identify the AMCA standards used for testing and rating fan noise.
  • Explain the difference between Sound Power Levels (Lw), Sound Pressure Levels (Lp), and Weighting (dBA).
  • Describe the noise characteristics of various fan types.
