Basic Electronic Circuits (1)

Online Course

Eugene Silberstein, CMHE

Description

As technological advances are being made at an ever-increasing rate, it should come as no surprise that older, electromechanical control strategies are quickly taking a backseat to newer electronics-based controls. Although mechanical and electromechanical controls are still found in the field, newly manufactured equipment, for the most part, incorporates at least some type of electronic or digital control circuitry.

Digital controls utilize electronic components such as transistors, capacitors, resistors and diodes to create circuits. These circuits, in turn, control the operation of a system’s main components.

This course provides a basic overview of electronic components that make up more complicated printed circuit boards. Other course topics include circuit logic, rectifiers, half-wave rectifiers, full-wave rectifiers, and electronic expansion valve (EEV) stepper motor control circuits.

Upon completion of the course, participants will earn a CEU certificate.

What You Will Learn

Upon completion of this course, the learner will be able to:

Explain the function of a printed circuit board.
Describe two important reasons for using printed circuit boards.
Describe a logic gate.
Explain what is meant by the term “binary”.
Explain the operation of an AND, NAND, OR, NOR, XOR, XNOR and a NOT gate as each applies to circuit logic.
Explain the function of a rectifier.
List two common types of rectifiers.
Describe the difference between the two most common types of rectifiers.
Explain how capacitors can be used to smooth a rectifier’s output waveform.
Explain how electronic circuitry can be used to control the operation of an electronic expansion valve’s (EEV) stepper motor.
